In our society, there are so many things to see, buy, taste, and follow. Even in the peace and comfort of our own homes, this abundance can leave us feeling unsettled and overwhelmed. This is not accidental. While some distractions happen by chance, many are intentionally designed to divert our attention.

      In my own search for control and focus within my mind and home, I began using candles as a tool. I had always loved them, the way they burned in my space, the pleasant fragrance lingering in a freshly cleaned room. The candle seemed to heighten my feelings of accomplishment and optimism, even though I did not have words for it at the time. That was the beginning of my love for candles.

      I have since learned that this simple pleasure can be combined with ritual to manifest intentions. It was at this point that the true power of candles began to reveal itself to me.

      There are many uses for candles, but I want to focus on the ones that align with why I created Truewick in the first place.

CALM

      The first is the calm a candle creates. I find this to be its primary power. A lit flame shifts the atmosphere of a space. Movements slow.       Keeping a candle in your home requires deliberate movement and consideration for its surroundings. You become aware of where it is placed and how it is tended. This attentiveness becomes part of the experience. While I am ultimately in control of the candle, it commands respect.

FOCUS

      The second power of candles, often underestimated, is their ability to serve as a tool for distraction. A candle draws your attention through sight, the dancing flame naturally pulling your eyes. Even if you are not looking at it constantly, you will notice it at some point. Adding fragrance engages the sense of smell, which can shift the energy of a room and evoke certain feelings.
